Although dreams can feel real as they’re happening, most people are able to determine the difference between reality and fiction using a series of unconscious processes. In other words, your brain figures out what is real on its own, there’s no need to spin a top like Leo DiCaprio in Inception. However, in rare cases, like for example with schizophrenics, the brain is altered in a way that can make illusions indecipherable from reality. Now, scientists have found a way to use the same chemical imbalances found in schizophrenics in order to create a new helmet that allows ordinary people to enter a fantasy world. What could go wrong? From The Guardian:

The Substitutional Reality (SR) system, developed by researchers at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute's Laboratory for Adaptive Intelligence, is made of cheap, commercially available electronic components: a panoramic video camera used for recording, a computer for storing the recorded footage, and a head-mounted visual display that can switch seamlessly between the recorded footage and a live feed captured by a camera and microphone attached to it.

I’ve had this same technology for years. It’s called bath salts. They’re great, just take two and you’ll be whisked away into a magical world of wonder. In fact, the other day I was bored, so I decided to take some bath salts and watch Willy Wonka. All of a sudden I was inside a giant gingerbread mansion, floating down a river of strawberry sauce and eating a two-foot long candy cane. When I came back to reality, my girlfriend was missing an arm and there was blood everywhere. I don’t know what happened though, like I said, I was off in a wonderful dream world.
