It’s been 70 years, but Germany still hasn’t given up trying to catch Nazis. Their latest target is a Philadelphia man named Johann Breyer, who authorities claim worked as a guard at Auschwitz. They are trying to have Breyer stripped of his American citizenship and deported. From Pennsylvania’s Morning Call:
Johann "Hans" Breyer, a retired toolmaker, admits he was a guard at Auschwitz during World War II, but told the AP he was stationed outside the facility and had nothing to do with the wholesale slaughter of some 1.5 million Jews and others behind the gates.
I love this guy's defense. "Yeah, I worked in Auschwitz, but I was in the nice part!" It's been a long time since I've taken a history class, but I don't think Auschwitz had a gift shop. You either worked for the concentration camp or you didn't. I say, if this guy can provide a photo proving he bartended at Hard Rock Café Auschwitz, we’re cool. If not, deport the Nazi.
