America is not happy with these girls. (Photo courtesy Onward State / December 6, 2012) |
The Chi Omega Nu Gamma sorority at Penn State University (CONG?) is drawing scrutiny for a recent picture. The photo, above, was taken during a theme party and posted to Facebook. Now it’s gone viral, and not in a good way like Gangnam Style or that double rainbow guy. From the PSU website Onward State:
The photograph in question was supposedly taken at a Mexican fiesta themed social around Halloween. Members of the Chi Omega Nu Gamma chapter are pictured dressed in ponchos, sombreros, and fake mustaches. One girl is holding a sign that reads “will mow lawn for weed & beer” and another reads “I don’t cut grass I smoke it.”
This is not a very racially sensitive photo, but I think it’s important to remember that these girls are all 18-22 years old. Kids do a lot of stupid shit. When I was young, my friends threw an Around the World Party. I was in charge of the Africa room. I wore a dashiki that I crafted out of a Salvation Army blanket and served a mixed drink called Africa’s Incredible Drink Special. It was racially insensitive and stupid. But I was a kid. The only difference between me and these sorority girls is that I didn’t have Facebook back then. Also, when I go to the bar, I have to pay for my own drinks. And people only laugh at my jokes when they’re funny. And I can’t get random guys to come over and do all my manual labor tasks for me. And I don’t exploit body image flaws in order to exert my superiority over my rivals. And I’m a hideous troll and it’s like Trevor doesn’t even notice me! Alright, now that I think about it, there are several differences between me and a hot young sorority girl.
