Ohio school bans student from wearing "Jesus is not a homophobe" t-shirt

Maverick Couch sounds like a made-up name, but he’s actually a junior at Waynesville High School in Waynesville, OH. And he’s suing his school, after they banned him from wearing a t-shirt that read, “Jesus is not a Homophobe.” Couch, who is gay, claims he was wearing the shirt to raise awareness about LGBT bullying. The school says the shirt was “indecent and sexual in nature.” From Opposing Views:

Christopher Clark, attorney for Lambda Legal, said in a statement: “Schools should be in the business of educating students about First Amendment freedoms, not trampling on their right to express themselves. The school has not offered – and cannot offer – any legitimate reason for threatening Maverick with disciplinary action. They have singled-out an intelligent, respectful student and tried to shame him just because he’s gay.”

I don’t see what’s wrong with this shirt. It’s not offensive, it’s fact. Of course Jesus isn’t a homophobe. After all, he has a gay dad. Think about it. God is 2,000 years old, yet He’s never had a girlfriend. He’s in great shape for his age, He’s super judgmental, and He’s always dressed like He’s about to go to a white party in the Hamptons. Plus, He wrote one book and it’s littered with anti-gay sentiment. Someone doth protest too much. It’s no surprise that Heaven is named after a DJ Sammy song.
