Yet another teacher has fallen victim to the irresistible charm of a 15-year old boy. This time, though, the offender just happens to be the Essex County N.J. Teacher of the Year 2011. Looks like the state is about to give her… [sunglasses on]… a very long detention. Read that last line in a David Caruso voice, it sounds better. From the Huffington Post:
Erica DePalo, 33, won the Essex County, N.J. Teacher of the Year award in 2011. Last Friday, she was arrested and accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her 15-year-old honors English students, according to CBS New York.
She should at least get credit for having sex with an honor student. Instead of sleeping with a jock, she rewarded a hard-working, studious individual. Her actions will undoubtedly encourage other students to hit the books. Isn't that the whole goal of teaching, to get your kids to learn? This kind of forward thinking is probably why she won Teacher of the Year in the first place.
