The highly-anticipated Penn State report came out this morning, and it pretty much confirmed what everyone has been saying for the past 8 months. Sandusky is evil, the administration didn’t report him, and Joe Paterno should have done more than throwing his hands in the air and yelling “I’m an old man!” like Uncle Leo from Seinfeld. From USA Today:
"The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized,'' the investigation concluded.
"None of them ever spoke to Sandusky about his conduct," Freeh said. "Nothing was done and Sandusky was allowed to continue with impunity… None of these four men took responsible action."
"The board failed in its oversight," he said. "They did not create an atmosphere where the personnel and the senior officials were accountable to the board."
So this 162-page document was released at 9AM, and by 9:30AM every major news organization had posted a story on its findings. Man, they sure are quick readers. Of Mice and Men is only 100 pages and it took me like three days to read. It’s almost as if they make up their mind in advance and then grab a couple excerpts from the report to back up their assertion. I used to do the same thing on my college book reports. I’d write a report on the Renaissance using a Geocities page and then toss in some quote from a Machiavelli book to make it look like I knew what I was doing. I hope that USA Today doesn’t lend their article to a friend to copy for next semester. That’s how I always got busted.
