Once again, the chairman of Augusta National Golf Club (home to this weekend’s Masters Tournament) finds himself having to answer the question of why women are not allowed membership to the club. This time it’s thanks to IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, who attempted to join the club but was denied on account of her possessing ovaries. From CNN:
The chairman of the club that hosts America's most prestigious golf tournament skirted the prickly issue of women's membership Wednesday, saying it is a private matter.
"Well, as has been the case, whenever that question is asked, all issues of membership are now and have historically been subject to the private deliberation of members," (Billy) Payne said. "That statement remains accurate; it remains my statement."
Listen ladies, you have to understand, Augusta is doing you a favor with these rules. It’s not about denying you equality. They’re trying to keep you away from Tiger Woods.
