Pretty, sweet, downright adorable artwork by Laura Alsina is on the walls of GreenWell coffee shop on Crown Street in New Haven's Ninth Square. The gentle paintings, of loving young couples, appear to be painted on colored tissue that has been glued directly to a backing board.
So much coffeehouse art these days seems unnecessarily jarring, with an overcaffeinated feel. Nice to see something soothing in such an environment. Not that tranquillity is an unknown quantity at GreenWell; this is the place with a chalkboard inviting customers to scrawl what they’re “grateful for today,” and provides more healthful non-sugar sweeteners so as to do less harm to bodies.
Sweet as Stevia, these folks.
