Bridgeport’s Gathering of the Vibes festival, scheduled for July 25-28 in Bridgeport, has announced its line-up in several waves. Phase two of the announcement occurred this morning:
Steve Kimock & Bernie Worrell
Jason Crosby Band
and The Kind Buds.
All are well in keeping with the Gathering of the Vibes’ funk/groove/jam mentality. Rhythm Devils guitarist Kimock and Parliament Funkadelic keyboardist Worrell have been jamming together for a few years now. Nice to see a local boy, Blues Traveler’s Stamford-raiser John Popper, in the mix.
In case you missed it, the following acts were announced for the fest a while back:
Phil Lesh & Friends
The Black Crowes
Deep Banana Blackout
John Butler Trio
John Scofield Uberjam
Lukas Nelson & The P.O.T.R
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
Ryan Montbleau Band
Tedeschi Trucks Band
…plus DJs Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation, and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem spinning late-night sets.
Again, there’s some comfort (the Deadheadly Lesh & Friends and Max Creek) and some local charm (Kung Fu). The Tedeschi Trucks Band is the Grammy-winning musical merger of married couple Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, both of whom have toured New England regularly for decades.
There’s yet a third Vibes announcement to come, probably June 10. There’s also the annual “Road to the Vibes” contest, in which an “up-and-coming” band is selected by public vote to perform at the festival.
