East Haven Mayor Joe "Taco" Maturo
It’s now almost inevitable that East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo will no forevermore be known as “Taco” Maturo for his incredible response of what he intended to do for the Latino community in the wake of the racial profiling scandal.
His “I might have tacos when I go home” quote is certain to go down in Connecticut lore as a supreme example of a politician shooting his own balls off with one explosive sentence.
In a move likely to cement the mayor's new moniker, one immigration reform group planned to deliver 500 tacos to his office Thursday.
But it should be noted that this won’t be the first Connecticut public figure with “Taco” as a nickname. That distinction must go to former state Supreme Court Chief Justice William “Taco” Sullivan.
From now on, however, there’ll be only one “Taco” in Connecticut politics, and his last name is Maturo.
