Congratulations to Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for being awarded a "Bicycle Friendly Business" designation from the biggest bike advocacy group in the nation.

The League of American Bicyclists included our DEEP on its latest list of almost 500 bike-friendly businesses and government agencies. According to Connecticut officials, DEEP is the only state environmental agency in the country to make the list.

You get to be named one of the League's most bike-friendly operations for stuff like having bike racks in the parking garage, showers for employees, allowing workers to attend bike repair and safety classes, and sponsoring things like Bike To Work Day and the Discover Hartford Bicycling Tour (all of which DEEP did).

According to the League's overall bike-friendly listing, there are only two other Connecticut businesses that have received this recognition: REI in West Hartford, and Whitcraft LLC in Eastford.

Now, wouldn't it be something if other Conneticut government agencies stepped up to the plate and got "bike friendly."

How about Connecticut's Department of Transportation, for instance. Or am I dreaming again?
