Hallelujah! Connecticut’s been saved from them dirty, rotten Commies.
You’ve probably been worried sick over it. I know I have.
But no longer, not since the Yankee Institute declared “Victory Over Connecticut Communists… VICTORY!”
The Yankee Institute, a conservative outfit that still hasn’t given up the blessed fight against evil communism (despite the fall of Iron Curtain, the breakup of the Soviet Union and the capitalization of Red China), did some big-time in-depth investigative reporting.
What the Yankee Institute discovered was the state was about to approve a $300,000 bond grant to a New Haven community center called (gasp) “The New Haven People’s Center.”
And it was a place that had ties to COMMUNISTS!
Yes, the center was established in 1937 (which is suspicious on the face of it) and is one of the stops on Connecticut’s Freedom Trail because of its contributions to the early civil rights movement (again, very odd). It also calls itself a meeting place for “labor, community, peace and social justice groups,” and you know how subversive that sort of thing can be.
There’s no doubt about it. The building actually houses that publishing powerhouse, the regional bureau of the People’s World newspaper, which is read by at least half a dozen people in this state. And one of the members of the board of the center’s governing organization is
Joelle Fishman – chairwoman of the Connecticut Communist Party!
The Yankee Institute was outraged. Veterans were outraged. Republicans were outraged. Democrats were, if not outraged, at least very embarrassed.
True, Fishman has never actually won any of the multitude of elective offices she’s sought in Connecticut. But you can never tell – them Commies are tricky. Fishman could simply be lulling us into complacency.
Now, it’s quite possible that the state might have better uses for the $300,000. Like fixing up some state lawmaker’s home town Little League ballpark, or putting in new marble floors at the State Capitol, or erecting signs to honor political friends by naming highway bridges after them, or any of the hundreds of other essential projects the state spends our money on.
But we’re talking about COMMUNISTS here, dammit!
So the $300,000 was pulled from the state Bond Commission agenda, and that’s how
Connecticut was SAVED FROM THE COMMUNISTS.
Thank you, Yankee Institute, thank you.
