Between the Whitey Bulger trial in Boston and a new indictment of a former New York FBI agent on bribery charges, our regional G-Men are likely to remember the summer of 2013 as one they'd like to forget.
Bulger is the big-time Boston thug who is on trial for bunches of crazy murders and corrupting the FBI's Beantown bureau office. A lot of the testimony in that trial concerned the way Bulger (the brother of a former Massachusetts state House speaker by the way) bribed local FBI agents into giving his Southie gang free rein to essentially do whatever deeds they wanted.
Bulger was picked up two years ago after being on the run for a long, long time as one of the nation's Most Wanted criminals. The New York FBI scandal just hit the news late last week.
The feds announced they were indicting Robert Lustyik, a former FBI agent in White Plains, NY, for a scheme to sell inside FBI info about a Bangladesh political dude. Lustyik is actually in prison on unrelated charges for something that allegedly went down in Utah.
Hmmm. Boston and New York. Seems like Connecticut is sort of bookended by these FBI scandals. Hope none of it leaks over to us - we've got enough corruption in this state without that.
