According to the Beer Institute's latest report on beer consumption in the U.S., folks in Connecticut are a bunch of beer wimps.
The Institute's rankings for 2012 per capita beer consumption puts Connecticut in 50th place among the states and the District of Columbia (Mormon-influenced Utah is dead last).
That translates to every person over the age of 21 in Connecticut drinking 22.1 gallons of beer last year.
In North Dakota, which sloshed in at No. 1, the per capita beer guzzling amounted to a hefty 45.8 gallons of beer per person last year. One theory is that the natural gas and energy boom in North Dakota has attracted lots of young, single, beer-drinking dudes to work the fields and it's those bad boys who are downing all that brew.
Other states in the top five included New Hampshire, Montana, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Connecticut's companions in the bottom five were New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Kentucky.
Here's the link to the Beer Institute's entire list for 2012.
